This is a solid beryllium ingot. Don't I look amazing?

Status update:

 at least 3 updates

February 1798 - I was discovered by Louis Nicolas Vauquelin in The French Academy.

1950 - People stopped making electric lamps that contained oxygen and I together.

July 21, 2011 - The space shuttle took it's last flight today. I was used very much in the space shuttle as an alloy with nickel and copper and will now be taken to a museum to be displayed to the adoring masses.

Overview:

3-5 sentences about the elements. (physical and chemical properties)

I am a hard person, and as colorful as the color gray can get. I  am brittle, and stick to my ways.

I fly with airplanes and glitter with emeralds.

You don't want to tussle with me, because I can cause berylliosis. I'm so awesome that I've got a disease named after me!

Information:

Relationship Status: I combine with aluminum to make aluminum-beryllium alloys, which are used in aircraft

Parent: Louis Nicolas Vauquelin

Network: Metal

Valence Electrons: 2

Reactivity: Very reactive (poorly reactive compared to the other alkali earth metals)
State of Matter: Solid at room temperature
Location on Periodic Table: Number 4 (Group 2, Period 2)

Birthday: 1798

Hometown: The French Academy

Group: Alkali earth metals

Activities & Interests:

2-3 sentences about the elements. (physical and chemical properties)

Because of me, some metals such as copper are much harder. I also cause metals to spark less often. If I am added to fluoride compounds, I can dissolve in water. Also,if I am chemically made into beryl, gems like emerald can appear because of my buddies and I!

Places:

"check in" with at least three places the element can be found

10-19-12 - I was just harvested as an emerald and now I'm going to be taken to a beryllium production plant to become pure beryllium!

10-20-12 - Made it through electrolysis! Now I'm officially beryllium!

10-18-12 - Last week, went to a factory where gears and cogs are made for airplanes. I saw my brother there He's a gear now and proud of it!

What is the mineral's name where you are found?
How is this mineral used?

Beryllium is found in emeralds
Beryllium is used in things like gears, especially for airplanes and other aviation machines.

Why are you poorly reactive? You are on the left side of the periodic table.

Beryllium said

it's really weird. Beryllium has atoms that are too small to be highly reactive.

How are you poisonous?!?!?!?!

Beryllium said

it's just one of my properties. Be nice to me or I'll poison you!

My atomic number is 4. I'm making aluminum beryllium alloys with aluminum this weekend. Maybe next weekend.
