Status update:

1900's-In the past, thousands eggs of beautiful bald eggs began to break which decreased the population. This was because DDT(dichloro-diphenyltrichloroethane) was present. DDT is a very harmful chemical that conatins me, chlorine.

1914-I was used in weapons in World War I.

Fun Fact (10/23/12)-I'm also found in the oceans of the world!

Fun Fact (10/25/12)-Did you know that I'm heavier/denser than the air you breath?

Fun Fact (10/27/12)-My name, chlorine, came from the Greek word chloros, meaning green-yellow.

Overview:

I am a very dense greenish-yellow gas. I have a density of 3.21 g/ml. I have a boiling point of -34 degrees Celsius and a melting point of -10 degrees Celsius. I am also a very reactive gas and I react with most elements, except for the Noble Gases. Some say I am a little overREACTive...  3-5 sentences about the elements. (physical and chemical properties)

Information:

Relationship Status: I am dating sodium (sodium chloride) because that is where I am most commonly found and who I am most associated with, best friends with hydrogen (hydrogen chloride) and lithium (lithium chloride), and close buddies with many others! I'm so reactive that I make friends with practically everyone!

Parent: English chemists Carl Wilhelm Scheele

Network: Non-metal

Valence electrons: 7

Reactivity: Highly reactive with almost all other elements
State of matter: Gas
Location on Periodic Table: Halgon(group 7), Period 3, number 18

Birthday: 1774

Hometown: Sweden

Activities & Interests:

I appear as a greenish-yellow color. I am a dense gas with a sharp odor. I am so so reactive and acidic that I can dissolve some metals. I can also bleach certain materials such as when I turn red flower petals white. I am mainly used as a powerful bleach, in disinfectants, and in oxidation, but I am also used to produce safe drinking water, as sanitation, in textile processing, in manufacturing chlorates, and in organic chemistry. In addition to all of this, I am used in medicine, anticeptics, insecticides, plastic, paints, food preserves, and some solvents. 2-3 sentences about the elements. (physical and chemical properties)

What are some of your compounds? Who do you most easliy bond with and why?

Chlorine said

at 10:49 pm on Oct 26, 2012

I bond/combine readily and easily with almost all of the other elements because I am so reactive.

Chlorine said

at 11:16 pm on Oct 26, 2012

Some of my main compounds are sodium chloride, hydrogen chloride, and magnesium chloride.

Because of you and another element, we have a big problem on our hands. Explain yourself!

Chlorine said

at 9:28 pm on Nov 1, 2012

When combined with Nitrogen and Hydrogen together(Ammonia), several extremely dangerous reactions can occur that severely harm humans and the environment.
Large amounts of me in pools can be hazardous to the health of others, too.

Calcium said

at 3:13 pm on Oct 26, 2012

Dude, let's go make some medicine. Saturday work for you?

Chlorine said

at 10:23 am on Oct 30, 2012

Yeah, can't wait, Calcium!!!!!

Copper said

at 10:13 am on Oct 27, 2012

You are highly reactive with soidum when you make salt.

Chlorine said

at 9:38 pm on Nov 1, 2012

Yeah! :)

Sodium said

at 10:34 pm on Oct 27, 2012

Hey! I most commonly react with you to form sodium chloride, or salt.

Chlorine said

at 9:39 pm on Nov 1, 2012

That's right! Where would the world be without us?

Lithium said

at 9:25 pm on Oct 28, 2012

Hey! What happens when you put me and you together, chlorine?

Chlorine said

at 9:16 pm on Nov 1, 2012

We make Lithium Chloride, which has several uses such as in metals for machinary and automobiles.

Mercury said

at 6:35 pm on Nov 3, 2012

What's new Chlorine?? It's me, Mercury! Remember that we make the compound mercurous chloride, something used in agricultural maggot control. I'm so proud of our baby!

Chlorine said

at 8:47 pm on Nov 4, 2012

Our compound is also used in photography, metals, preservatives, and medicine! :)

Iodine said

at 12:50 pm on Nov 4, 2012

wow, you're really reactive with a lot of things! High five to the Halogens!

Chlorine said

at 8:48 pm on Nov 4, 2012

Wahoo!!!!!!!!!!!!

Aluminum said

at 7:02 pm on Nov 4, 2012

maybe we can hang out sometime and make some aluminum chloride- if your not too busy or anything...

Chlorine said

at 8:49 pm on Nov 4, 2012

Sounds great! Are you free this weekend?...

Hydrogen said

at 8:31 pm on Nov 4, 2012

You know what is cool? It's cool that we make hydrogen chloride together.

Chlorine said

at 8:50 pm on Nov 4, 2012

That is totally awesome! :)

Selenium said

at 9:14 pm on Nov 4, 2012

Hey isn't that interesting? You're very reactive, but you're on the right side of the periodic table!

Titanium said

at 6:51 pm on Nov 6, 2012

Isn't it cool how we have to be kept in an inert gas so that we don't burst into flames?

Gold said

at 12:14 am on Nov 7, 2012

Together we form gold chloride :)

Beryllium said

at 8:20 pm on Nov 7, 2012

I combine with you to form beryllium chloride.
